Bringing together a hybrid of genres, he utilizes unconventional slide-guitar, beatboxing, turntablist techniques, and original looping styles, while manipulating dials on his pedals with his toes, producing uniquely mesmerizing performances.

JAMES CARAN
Throwin’ down in the East Village clubs of New York since age 14, performer and composer James Caran now launches from his base in San Francisco to perform for smiling audiences across four continents. A multi-instrumentalist and celebrated vocalist trained in classical music, James has also worked with many modern masters as diverse as Taj Mahal, Airto Morera, and the P-Funk Allstars. His music spans genres and ranges from delicate and sublime to fierce and defiant, and his lyrics are always searching and open for personal interpretation.

CelloJoe is an anomaly in the world of cello. He beatboxes while playing the cello and has traveled over 10,000 miles by bicycle with his cello on two continents.
Light and the Black
Light and the Black is the summary of the forces of nature. The coupling of the mystery and the apparent. The creation of duality, and the unveiling of the illusion.
The brain child of songwriter Lucas Schwartz, the project has been brewing on high heat in the studio for over 3 years. With vast symphonic arrangements, and haunting solo arias, Light and the Black covers a huge musical terrain. From rocking grunge guitar to electronic arpeggio, from jungle drum dance beats to hypnotic lullabies, there is a story being told which is as diverse as it is coherent.
Three part vocal harmonies, cello, ukelele, guitar, organ and often electronic beats create an unforgettable soundscape, framing lyrics and melodies that linger long after the show has ended.
What the Festival will host the debut of Light and the Black’s live ensemble. It takes a long runway to land a 747. Luckily, it’s turned into a flying saucer, and it’s about to land in your driveway.
