Art + Experience

Sculpture by the dozen and art by the ton! WTF has invited large and small installation artists from all over the West Coast to gather together and show their stuff. Forget about stodgy museums and “please do not touch the art” signs… This is your opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the biggest names from Burning Man and beyond. Climb it, touch it, interact with it! WTF Art + Experience welcomes colorful comers, and invites participants to create some of their own.

Michael Christian — “Candelaphytes”

Undulating gently as if dancing to the music, the Candelaphytes are large steel kinetic beings from another world. Brought to you by world-class installation artist Michael Christian, “Candelaphytes” first made their appearance at Coachella in 2011. WTF is excited to showcase big art in a brand new Oregon venue! video link

Chad “Fez” Gaetz — “Lily Flowers”

Climbable megaflora! Sprouting from the earth in colorful displays of bamboo pistils and steel & cargo net petals, these are not your garden-variety lilys. Fez and crew have scoured the jungles of creative, collaborative fabrication, and the result are two very fine specimens of interactive installation art. Grown in Portland, these are the type of ultra-huge plants that the Pacific Northwest is famous for!

Weird Times Comix — Gabe Shaughnessy and Dan Cohen

Without a doubt, we live in strange days. Weird times are upon us, and the weird stories we tell about our times are in abundance: UFOs, Cellphones, Revolutions, Quantum Communication. What stories will we choose to bring into being? Weird Times Comix is a larger-than-life comic book where participants can enter into the story, becoming a digital puppet, writing the captions, and changing the very look and feel of the page with projection mapped video effects.

“Mr. Toad’s Gypsy Wagon” — by Manuel Carreras and Ildyko Cziglenyi

Born out of inspiration from the children’s book, The Wind in the Willows — in which Mr. Toad sets off for a life of adventure in his gypsy wagon this traditional traveling gypsy caravan will is making the pilgrimage to Oregon to add eastern spice to What the Festival Hookah Lounge. With mini-performances, tea ceremonies and lush comfortable spaces to lounge, the caravan provides a respite to weary travelers in need of a rest.

“Dreamseed Temple” — Jonathan Clark

Hung as a centerpiece to this minimalist tetrahedral tensegrity structure, the Dreamseedrojection mapped onto from three sides with organic images created for the installation by the artist Hijinks (www.nebulouslotus.net). By day, the Dreamseed provides triangular benches to relax and hang out, but at night it comes alive with color and movement. video link

“Wishing Well” and other Permaculture Art — Spectra Delight / Seven Spirits United

Calling on the Seven Galactic Directions, we build for you a place of intentional prayer. Using organic materials and harnessing the power of sacred geometry, this is a place where your wishes come true! Gather here and throw a penny into one of the ponds, each holding a different intention. Make a wish for someone you love, or make a wish for yourself. You also have an opportunity to make a childs’ wish come true, since  all the pennies we gather will be donated to the MAKE A WISH FOUNDATION.
